"The Secret World of Arrietty" by Mary Norton is one of those rare, timeless books that speaks not only to children but to adults as well. The story is narrated by a 13-year-old boy who finds himself transported into Pat's backyard. There he meets his tiny friend Arrietty, her mother Homily, and her father Pod (he does all the housework). Although they are very different in height, they become good friends—in fact, our narrator becomes what Homilies call a "human bean. "There are not very many books that leave you feeling this way, but this one does. It's obvious that Mary Norton had a great love of children, and she wrote this book with their interests in mind. If you've gotten the chance to see the movie "Arrietty" you'll know what I mean when I say it's one of those timeless stories that speaks to all ages. The secret world of arrietty is magical and imaginative and just has something about it that makes it very special. "The Secret World of Arrietty" is the first in the Arrietty series. The second book is "The Borrowers". The third book is "The Whispering Wind". The fourth book is "The Return". The fifth book is "The Borrowers". The sixth book released June 1, 2014 called "The Treasure", the seventh book is "Anemone Red" and the eight book will be coming out in August 2015. That's all of the books! "The Secret World of Arrietty" has been compared to Charlotte's Web by E.B. White, since both are about life among tiny beings, but unlike Charlotte's Web which was written for children, this book is perfectly suited for adults who might find it difficult to find a good children's story that they can relate to and enjoy as much as they do Arrietty and its world. This book is so magical and imaginative, and the characters are so vivid. "[BOOK REVIEW]" The Secret World of Arrietty is about a boy who moves to the country side, leaving all his friends behind. His favorite book right now is called The Borrowers, which is about people that are only 2 inches tall. The boy finds out that there are really "borrowers" in this world when he sees one of them. Her name is Arrietty and she lives with her father Pod, her mother Homily, and her little brother. She also has a few things left by other borrowers in case Homily's crafts don't work out well. This is a great book 3/5 stars - AubreyYou will not be able to put this book down! It draws you into the little world of Arrietty with her family, but mostly with her. It is so lovely to read how they live together, learn together, and grow together. This book teaches you how even though your family might be small or even if your family is large no matter how big or small you are you are still loved very much! I highly recommend this book to boys and girls of all ages! It has an amazing story that is full of adventure. You will be on the edge of your seat for days after reading it.
